Skin Rejuvenation

Skin Tightening

Non-invasive laser treatments for facial skin tightening have become a growing trend in the laser industry. Understanding this trend, Candela Corp., has expanded the applications of the GentleYAG to include facial and neck tightening. Candela’s goal was to offer effective and affordable skin tightening with a laser system that physicians have trusted for years to remove unwanted hair and leg veins. The GentleYAG tightens the skin by heating the underlying layers in the skin and forming new collagen resulting in smoother, younger looking skin.

The Candela GentleYAG is an exceptional way to smooth out wrinkles and tighten the skin. Short of doing a facelift, or a more aggressive/invasive approach, the GentleYAG facial skin tightening offers excellent results without downtime.

Laser treatments for facial or neck skin tightening can be slightly uncomfortable. To minimize discomfort, your laser provider may intermittently apply ice packs during the procedure. Furthermore, the GentleYAG’s patented epidermal cooling system, the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), protects the skin with every laser pulse allowing for quick results and patient comfort. Although rare, side effects are possible. They may include redness, swelling, change in skin pigmentation (lighter or darker), bruising or blisters. Side effects do not last more than a few days, and permanent side effects are exceedingly rare. Candela’s GentleYAG laser is an exceptional new way to get rid of wrinkles and tighten skin. Because it is so quick and results in little redness, patients can receive a skin tightening treatment at anytime…there is no downtime.

Q&A - Skin Rejuvenation     [open/close all]

How does the laser treatment work?

The laser creates a beam of high intensity light that penetrates deep into the skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat. Candela’s Patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) technology protects the upper layers of the skin with a cooling burst of cryogen.

How do I prepare for the treatment?

Your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried, removing any make-up, creams, oils, perfumes or self tanning products before laser treatment. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 2 weeks prior to treatment and sunscreen should be utilized after treatment.

Does it hurt?

There is some discomfort with each laser pulse, best described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. The discomfort resolves in several seconds. Cool compress are applied after the laser to alleviate the discomfort.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments can vary depending on the severity of the condition being treated. The number of treatments usually recommended is 4-6, spaced at monthly intervals. You will begin to see results prior to finishing the series of treatments and for several months after the procedures are completed.

Are there any side effects?

Normal side effects may include redness and swelling which will last for 24-48 hours. Rare side effects include pigmentation changes, blistering and bruising. These are very, very rare and generally only last a few days to a week at most.

What can I expect after the treatment?

Cool compresses will be applied during and after your treatment. Any redness or swelling will dissipate in a few hours to 48 hours. Your face may feel warm or slightly irritated (like a sunburn) for a few areas.

What precautions should I take after the treatment?

You should prevent sun exposure for a week following treatment. Apply a sun block (SPF 30 or above) is recommended. Do not scrub the face in the first few days following treatment. Do not use any glycolic or alpha-hydroxy acid products following treatment. Treat your skin gently as if you had sunburn.

How does laser skin rejuvenation work?

Collagen provides the support network to our skin. As we age, the collagen breaks down causing lines and wrinkles. The laser works by stimulating collagen production. As the new collagen is generated lines and wrinkles are decreased. Additionally, years of sun exposure can cause discoloration, large pores, and pigmented areas on the skin. Patients report, and studies have confirmed that this procedure achieves a more refreshed appearance, smoother skin texture and an even skin tone, and a decrease in pore size. Those with difficult acne scarring will also notice a marked improvement.
